Family Rosary Hack

When we started doing a weekly family rosary with our small kiddos, it was super chaotic. Like, next level chaotic. We needed to find a way to set our kids up for success, knowing their attention spans and varying developmental levels.

So here’s what we do:

We go downstairs to the family room (changing up the location from where we normally spend time together was already stepping in the right direction!)

We turn the lights down and sit in front of the TV.

As we pray, we go through a slideshow that I put together on Canva that includes one new picture for each mystery.

It’s so dang simple, but the kids (and let’s be honest, us too!) are drawn to focus on the image, ask questions about it, and start making sense of meditating on the mysteries of the rosary.

Before each mystery, we ask them if they can remember what’s happening in the picture. The more we do each mystery, the more they are remembering the details. Funny story: when it came to the “Last Supper/Institution of the Eucharist,” our 3yo blurted out, “the first breakfast!?” 😂 I count that as a win.

But in general, they are picking up so much about the life of Jesus, and it’s allowing them have a helpful focal point amidst the natural distractions of praying with small kids. Our 5 year old has been volunteering to lead decades lately, and it’s so sweet to hear. 🥹

Do some of them still end up talking and playing during it? Yes.
Are there still tantrums at times? Yes.
Are we creating an important family rhythm that we will grow into as the years go by? YES!

It’s awesome how a simple shift to our routine has made all the difference in the enjoyment of our family rosary time.

Now tell me —  would you be interested in having the slideshow that we use? Click the button below to get the Canva template link! We’re more than happy to share it with you so that you can pray a more dynamic Rosary with your kiddos!

Keep teaching the faith to your kids, especially when it’s hard - and get creative! It’s so worth it.
